Structural Steel for a Hillside Build

Not every project starts with an easy site.

Set above Tairua on the slopes of Paku, this build presented a combination of tight access, elevation, and coastal exposure - the kind of conditions where planning and precision matter from the outset.

For this project, our team at Alted Engineering was engaged to deliver the structural steel package, working alongside Taylor Projects and Solutions on a new build that required both accuracy in fabrication and discipline on site.

From fabrication through to installation

All structural steel components were designed and fabricated in our Tairua workshop, with each beam and connection prepared for efficient installation.

On projects like this, accuracy isn’t a “nice to have” - it’s critical. Once steel is on site and lifting begins, there’s limited opportunity for adjustment. Everything needs to align first time.

The installation phase required careful coordination, with crane lifts planned to suit the site constraints and ensure safe, precise placement of each element.

Working in real-world conditions

Elevated coastal builds bring additional challenges.

Wind exposure, restricted access, and the logistics of moving steel into position all need to be accounted for well before installation begins. It’s not just about the design - it’s about how that design performs on site.

Our team focuses on practical execution, ensuring that steel not only meets engineering requirements, but also installs cleanly and efficiently in the conditions it’s delivered into.
